Constructive critique for Charlotte’s visual artists
HOW IT WORKS
Six artists bring one work or a small series for critique. When their work is discussed, they listen. No introduction. No explanation. Just an opportunity to understand what their work communicates on its own.
After their 15-minute critique concludes, they join the conversation and offer feedback when other artists present.
Two guest reviewers (curators, arts professionals, educators, or fellow artists) support and help guide and support the discussion. Additionally, a small group of selected artists may observe the session and contribute with written reflections.
Artists leave with clearer insight into how their work is seen, where ideas land, and where they may push further.
WHAT ELSE
Sessions will take place at McColl Center in Uptown and run for two hours
We welcome a diversity of voices, mediums, and experiences in each role
Work is shown in person only; artists will bring/install/remove their own work
Sessions are audio recorded for transcription; presenting artists receive written notes afterward.
Select themes emerging from the session may be shared publicly to benefit the wider arts community; individual artists and artworks will not be identified
There is no fee to participate; modest stipends are provided to presenting artists and guest reviewers
TO PARTICIPATE
Opportunities open in early 2026 for Charlotte-based visual artists who are actively developing their work and seeking thoughtful critique
